Jung on the mandala

Daily Mandala, June 6, 2007 (c) Henry ReedThe “squaring of the circle” is one of the many archetypal motifs which form the basic patterns of our dreams and fantasies. But it is distinguished by the fact that it is one of the most important of them from the functional point of view. Indeed, it could even be called the archetype of wholeness.

- from Mandalas. C. G. Jung. trans. from Du (Zurich, 1955) .

Mandala is the Daily Mandala of June 6, 2007 (c) Henry Reed

“In dreams, those forces of the subconscious, when correlated into forms that relate to the various phases of the individual, give to that individual the better understanding of self, when correctly interpreted.”

My article is to be used in a Cambridge University Press school book

I received an email today requesting permission from The English Language Teaching (ELT) department at Cambridge University Press to use text from my article ‘The Lost Art of Letter Writing’ in a school book called Cambridge Vocabulary for Advanced, which is aimed at Cambridge Advanced (formerly CAE) exam candidates. The email reads, “Many of the reading, writing and listening activities in this book use real articles from sources such as newspapers, magazines and the internet to provide advanced level language materials for students to work with.”  Of course, I gave them permission – I am thrilled and honored to have my writing used as a teaching tool.

I wrote the article, ‘The Lost Art of Letter Writing’, which begins, “I long to receive a three page, heart-rending, soppy letter, filled with words carefully chosen and eternal,” over 10 years ago. For the record — I’m still waiting for that letter.
